Biography
American soprano Calia Burdette studies with Dr. Angelique Clay-Everett at the University of Kentucky, where she is pursuing Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Voice Performance and Arts Administration.
During the summer of 2026, Burdette will attend Lyric Opera Studio Weimar in Weimar, Germany, where she will perform the role of Ida in Die Fledermaus and serve as cover for Rosalinde. At the University of Kentucky, she recently performed the role of Rosalinde in scenes from Die Fledermaus and covered the roles of Mrs. Nowak and Henrietta in the world premiere of A Nation of Others. Additional University of Kentucky Opera Theatre credits include covering Marcellina in Le nozze di Figaro and the Mother in Hänsel und Gretel, as well as chorus performances in Don Giovanni, Susannah, and Sanctuary Road.
In addition to opera, Burdette is an active recital and concert performer. In 2025, she presented a solo recital featuring works by Mozart, R. Strauss, Berlioz, and Puccini. She has also appeared as a featured soloist in pre-concert lecture recitals with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra, performing selections from Mahler's Symphonies Nos. 3 and 4.
Her honors include the Barbara Rouse Kentucky Prize, Winner of the Ohio Regional Schmidt Vocal Competition and Kentucky NATS Competition, Classical Singer All-State Singer, and Finalist in the Hal Leonard Vocal Competition. She is also an alumna of the Governor's School for the Arts and the Schmidt Vocal Institute.
